Correspondence; journal (1816-1817); memorandum book and journal (1822); biographical sketches and memoirs; extracts from journals kept by Stephen Hempstead and others; printed memoirs; sermons; and sketches relating to Giddings's work and travels (1816-1822) in Missouri, Illinois, and Nebraska in establishing Presbyterian congregations and in doing missionary work among the Pawnee and Dakota Indians near the Elkhorn and Platte Rivers. Topics discussed in the journals and correspondence include Indian religion and customs, councils held, church affairs, and travels among the early Missouri settlements.
